Extraction of a generator rotor, Russia
ALE has performed the extraction of a gas turbine generator rotor, weighing 52t, in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia.
The extraction had to be performed through a wall opening that was 5m above the ground. Therefore, the operation had to be completed by skidding at height instead of using cranes.
There were no foundations for the skidding, so ALE designed a bespoke steel platform.
ALE then skidded the rotor out over the platform. After maintenance was completed on the gas turbine generator, the rotor was reinstalled, reversing the method used to extract it.
