Nether Lane bridge replacement, UK

Overview: ALE has successfully performed the replacement of the Nether Lane railway bridge in Ecclesfeld, Sheffeld.

Services Required: ALE was contracted to supply trestling for both the existing bridge and new bridge as well as to remove and
install the respective bridges using 16 axle lines of SPMT in a 4 file 8 configuration. The existing bridge weighed 43t and the new
bridge 181t.

As part of the trestling works ALE supplied a low-level trestle on which the new bridge was erected, once erected the bridge was
jacked up to installation height.

Prior to the possession weekend, the SPMTs were arranged into a 4 file 8 axle configuration, and a trial lift and move was carried out during a pre-arranged road closure.

The existing bridge consisted of a steel deck and longitudinal timbers, which was removed using the SPMTs. The bridge was placed in the compound on pre-erected high level trestling (configured to allow the bridge to be jacked-down to a lower level for demolition after the possession). The SPMTs were then re-positioned under the new bridge, as per the trial move, and the new bridge was successfully installed on the newly prepared abutments.

The bridge replacement works were carried out concurrently with the Stead Lane bridge replacement.
