Quick mobilisation for lifting heavy oil and gas equipment, Iraq

Overview

ALE has successfully installed an LPG bullet, weighing 200t, and thermal oxidiser, weighing 192t, for the Siba Field Development, Iraq.

Services Required

The LPG bullet, measuring 30m long, 5m wide and 8m high, was lifted and installed into its final position using the CC2800-1 crawler crane with superlift.

Once installed, the crane was dismantled and erected in a new area within the site. It was then used to lift the thermal oxidiser, measuring 76m long, 4m wide and 4m high. As the column needed to be uprighted from horizontal to vertical, the CC2800-1 was used in tandem with a 275t capacity tailing crawler crane, SCX2800-2.

One of the challenges ALE faced was an unexpected weight increase of the equipment which meant ALE had to find a suitable crane that had the capacity to perform these critical lifts. As a result, ALE had to quickly mobilise the cranes at short notice.
