Transportation and installation of bridge beams, Australia
ALE has completed the transportation and installation of 50 bridge beams, weighing 82t, for the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing in Australia.
A railway line crossed a section of the transportation route so the precast beams could only be transported at night and a Queensland Rail protection officer was present during each transportation.
Through continual planning, ALE was able to deliver four beams per night, with each load leaving the precast site in half hour intervals. Several escorts accompanied each load, including two Police escorts.
As there was a creek in the centre of the site, ALE had to install the pre-cast concrete beams from both ends of the bridge. ALE used 10 axle lines of conventional trailer to transport 40 beams through one entrance and 10 beams through another.
The beams were transported a total of 130km.
ALE then mobilised a 400t capacity crane to unload and install each of the beams.
The entire operation was completed within two months.
