Transportation and installation of a girder beam, Australia
ALE has performed the transportation and installation of a girder beam, weighing 98t, on the Gold Coast, in Australia.
ALE transported the girder beam 87km using 12 axle lines of conventional trailers in two separate configurations of 2 x 2 file 6, from a fabrication yard at Seventeen Mile Rocks to the Gold Coast Light Rail Project at Arundel, with a total travelling length of 55m.
The beam was delivered to a holding bay on the site and additional work was carried out, which increased the weight to 108t.
ALE positioned the trailer in the same configuration ready for the specialised lift and the client then used a crane to lift the beam. ALE then utilised the trailer’s turntables to rotate the beam 90 degrees, placing it into the correct position for the installation. A second crane was used to list the end of the beam and complete the installation.
ALE successfully completed the operation in one month.
