Transportation and installation of two 125t transformers, Rhigos substation, UK

Overview

ALE has successfully completed the transportation of two transformers, weighing 125t, from Rotterdam via Swansea Port to Rhigos substation.

Services Required

The first transformer was offloaded at Swansea Port onto ALE’s AL24 girder frame trailer and 14 axle lines of conventional trailers and immediately transported to Rhigos substation.

The second transformer was loaded onto stools and temporarily stored at Swansea Port, before being transported to Rhigos substation on the same AL24 girder frame.

Once both transformers were on site, they were rotated 90°. They could then be jacked-up and skidded into position using climbing jacks and beams. The transformers were positioned above the centre lines marked on a plinth before being jacked-down onto the plinth using conventional jacks.
