Overview

ALE were part of the collaborative team which won the Team Achievement Merit Award for the TCC 27A (Awsworth) Bridge Replacement Project.

The annual Institute of Civil Engineers East Midlands Awards, which celebrate outstanding work of ICE members and recognise exceptional projects, teamwork and individual excellence, were held on 9th June at the Nottingham Belfry, UK.

ALE was contracted to supply and erect trestling for both the new and old bridges on Awsworth Road in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, as well as to remove the existing bridge, weighing 425t, and install the new bridge, weighing 525t, using SPMTs. The bridge replacement works were carried out on the Derby to Chesterfield main railway line. ALE performed the successful removal and installation works within one 12 hour shift with the 26-hour possession in December 2016.

This innovative method was praised by the judges for minimising disruption to rail operations, claiming that the project also raised the profile of the civil engineering profession.
