« Back to news

Overview

ALE has installed the 1,000th gas turbine for Siemens as part of the Um Al Houl power station project in Doha, Qatar.

The global heavy-lifting contractors secured the scope to transport and install six gas turbines and gas turbine generators as well four steam turbines and three steam generators weighing 327t and 155t, at the Um Al Houl site.

The components are being transported from Mesaieed Port to the project site in Al Wakrah, Doha, Qatar using 24 axle lines of conventional trailers in a configuration of 4 file 12.

The gas turbine, weighing 306, was lifted and installed using ALE’s Lift ‘n’ Lock system. The same method is being used for all remaining gas turbines.

Vincent Beentjes, Project Manager for ALE, said: “ALE’s Qatar crew and ALE’s Abu Dhabi installation crew worked on this project collectively, ensuring that the gas turbine was installed safely and successfully. We are really pleased with how effectively all teams worked together on this milestone installation and are delighted that the client has recognised our safety efforts, by awarding certificates to individual crew members.”

ALE commenced the project in April 2016, with 16 installations completed so far. The project is expected to finish in May 2017.
