ALE take extra care during delicate project, Australia
Overview: ALE were contracted to supply the engineering calculations and transportation of two state-of-the-art 66,000kva switch rooms from the manufacturer in Perth, to individual locations within the customers’ site in Port Hedland, Western Australia.
Services required: The switch rooms were moved over two separate transportation phases, they each provided extreme and challenging tasks from the initial transport, planning and engineering calculations to the eventual delivery. The dimensions of the switch rooms were 28m in length, 6.85m high and 8.5m wide.
Due to the delicate nature of the machinery, the constraints on the transport were such that speed limits could not exceed 40 kph for the entire journey over a distance of approximately 1700km. The journey to Port Hedland was completed in six days.
To ensure the integrity of the delicate load accelerometers and sensitive recording equipment was placed within the switch rooms and attached to the installed equipment to monitor the entire journey.
On arrival at the destinations of Finnucane Island and Nelson Point, Port Hedland, no issues were recorded on the data loggers; a testament to the care taken by ALE. The engineering, transport arrangements, stability calculations and lashing calculations were compiled and analysed by the ALE Engineering Team to ensure the highest standards of safety and care while handling these loads.
