Container crane movements between Khorfakkan and Sharjah, UAE
ALE has successfully completed the transportation, primary rocker replacement and jack-down onto quayside rails of two container cranes from Khorfakkan Container Terminal,UAE, to Sharjah Container Terminal, UAE.
Each crane weighed 1,200t.
Both cranes and two RTG’s were positioned on the barge in Khorfakkan Container Terminal. The sea fastenings for the three day voyage from khorfakkan to Sharjah were completed in two days using a bespoke sea fastening solution provided by ALE.
The cranes sailed early in the morning from Khorfakkan so they could ensure that the barge would arrive in Sharjah at first light three days later, enabling quicker berthing and work commencement.
ALE offloaded the cranes onto a total of 48 axle lines of SPMT. Upon completion of the offloading, ALE were contracted to remove and replace primary rockers on the long travels in order to re-configure the container cranes to suit the shorter Sharjah Container Terminal rail width. ALE utilised the capability of the SPMTs and the transportation beams in order to jack-up each crane, releasing the rockers for effective replacement operations.
ALE completed the whole scope over a period of 16 days, from the initial pick-up to the offloading from the barge at final destination.
