Eaglescliffe bridge replacement, UK
ALE has successfully performed the installation of the replacement rail bridge on a private road off Wass Way, Eaglescliffe.
ALE was contracted to supply trestling for the new bridge to be erected upon and to supply the SPMT for the installation works. ALE utilised 6 axle lines of SPMT, which was supplied with additional steelwork packing to support the new bridge weighing 45t.
The trestling was set up a couple of weeks before the main possession, with the client erecting the bridge the following day. The SPMTs were mobilised three days prior to the possession with a trial move being carried out the following day after the SPMTs had been rigged.
The existing bridge consisted of steel beams and steel mesh which was lifted out piece-meal. ALE had to overcome a steep slope for the installation of the new bridge. The private road down to the bridge was widened, potholes filled and trackway installed to give the SPMT extra traction on the steep slope.
The new bridge was successfully installed within one hour during the possession.
