GDF Cygnus Project, UK

Overview

ALE has performed the site movement, weighing and load-out of four jackets and one topside for the Cygnus gas field in the North Sea.

Services Required

ALE utilised their in-house 200t and 600t load cells to weigh the jackets and topside prior to load-out.

The jackets ranged in weight, from 1,180t to 2,125t, and were transported using different configurations of SPMT, ranging from 48 axle lines to 80 axle lines. The topside weighed 4,140t and was transported using 168 axle lines of SPMT.

The jackets and topside were then self-loaded using the SPMTs hydraulic stroke, and were then transported 300m onsite to the quayside edge. The route involved traversing a 3% gradient slope.

Once at the quayside, ALE used their ballasting system and linkspan system to transfer and load-out the structures onto the awaiting barges. The barges then sailed to their offshore location in the southern part of the North Sea.

All operations were executed in a timely and safe manner.
