Launching of Rio Grande railway bridge, Brazil

Overview

ALE has successfully launched the first eight sections of a railway bridge, weighing 1,180t, in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

 

Services Required

The bridge, located over the Rio Grande, is being built in sections in five stages.

ALE used two 70t strand jacks, 12 300t sliding supports and two 500t hydraulic supports as well as nose recovery hydraulic jacks for the launch.

So far, ALE has launched eight sections, measuring over 280m across five spans. Once completed, the bridge will be used to connect the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo.
