Lifting of a 70t engine, Gulf of Mexico

Overview

ALE has successfully performed the lifting of a 70t engine, at the West Pegasus Platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

Services Required

ALE was requested to change the engine´s crankshaft 7, all took place inside the engine room of the platform.

The project was executed using four strand jacks, each with a 45t capacity.

The preliminary works required the use of highly specialised measuring equipment in order to get an accurate location over the deck of the platform. Specialist cutting equipment was also used to avoid damaging any into secondary equipment located under the deck.

Once the assembly works were completed, the lifting points were connected with shackles and the lifting change of the crankshaft was executed. The client then replaced the old crankshaft and installed the new crankshaft. ALE lowered the engine’s block until it reached its final position.
