Lifting of two cyclotrons in Dimitrovgrad, Russian Federation

Overview

ALE has successfully performed the lifting and installation of two cyclotrons, weighing 120t each, for the Federal High-Technology Centre for Medical Radiology in Dimitrovgrad, southern Russia.

Services Required

In order to perform these lifts, ALE mobilised its largest crawler crane available in the region, the M18000 with MAX-ER superlift which has the capacity to lift up to 750t.

The cyclotrons had to be positioned, extremely close with an accuracy of 0.5mm. They need to be this close to enable the protons to accelerate and treat cancer.

As the cyclotrons had to be lowered into tight space inside the building, the crane operator needed to ensure precision, co-ordinating with the lifting supervisor to lower the cyclotrons safely and accurately.
