Load-out of a jacket in Cádiz, Spain


ALE has performed the load-out of a jacket, weighing 22,400t, for the Mariner Project. The barge S44, on which the jacket was loaded, measured 190m long and 50m wide.


Services Required

Prior to the load-out of a jacket, the grounding of the barge must take place. In this instance, it required the installation of an external ballast system, consisting of 12 hydraulic pumps 10PS, seven electric pumps 4PS and two hydraulic ballast pumps for cooling the internal pumping system of the barge. This system was operated and monitored centrally and controlled within the internal system of the barge, allowing the stranded manoeuvre to be executed in a completely controlled and safe way.


For the pulling of the jacket, ALE used a system consisting of four pulling units in sets of two units of 900t and two units of 500t capacity. The separation distance between the sets was 34m. The pulling distance was 197m.


The ballast system was comprised of submersible pumps that were installed over the side of the barge with vertical tubes to remove or add ballast water without interfering with the pulling manoeuvre.


For the load-out, an external ballast system was installed, consisting of four hydraulic pumps of type 10PS, six electric pumps of type 4PS and six ballast pumps, including cooling. The pumps acted together with the internal system of the barge to offset the cargo transferred to the barge during the operation.


The pulling was carried out in just six hours, at an average speed of 16m per hour. The sheer size and weight of the jacket represented a new challenge that ALE successfully overcame.

ALE ha realizado el load-out de una jacket de 22.400t mediante pulling para el Proyecto Mariner. La barcaza S44 sobre la que se ha cargado la jacket tiene unas dimensiones de 190m de eslora y 50m de manga.

Previamente al load-out se ha realizado el grounding de la barcaza. Para ello se ha instalado un sistema de lastrado externo compuesto por 12 bombas hidráulicas del tipo 10PS y siete bombas eléctricas del tipo 4PS además de dos bombas hidráulicas de cubierta para la refrigeración del sistema de bombeo interno de la barcaza. Este sistema se opera y monitoriza igualmente de forma centralizada, independiente y controlada con el sistema interno de la barcaza, permitiendo la maniobra de varada de forma totalmente controlada y segura.


Para el pulling se ha utilizado un sistema compuesto por cuatro unidades de tiro en conjuntos de dos unidades de 900t y dos unidades de 500t de capacidad, siendo la distancia de separación entre conjuntos de 34m. La distancia de pulling ha sido de 197m.


El sistema de lastrado está compuesto por bombas sumergibles que se han instalado por la borda de la barcaza con tubos verticales para eliminar o añadir el agua de lastre sin interferencia alguna con la maniobra de pulling. Para el load-out se ha instalado un sistema de lastrado externo compuesto por cuatro bombas hidráulicas del tipo 10PS, seis bombas eléctricas del tipo 4PS y seis bombas de cubierta, incluyendo la de refrigeración, que han actuado conjuntamente con el sistema interno de la barcaza para compensar la carga a transferir a la barcaza durante la operación.


El pulling, llevado a cabo a la velocidad demandada de 16 metros hora en apenas seis horas, ha supuesto un nuevo reto superado para ALE dadas las enormes dimensiones y peso de la pieza movida.
