Load-out of two flight deck sections, UK
ALE has performed the load-out of two flight deck sections, weighing 865t and 882t, at Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead, UK.
The sections were each transported approximately 1km from the construction hall and across the yard before arriving at the load-out quay. ALE utilised 40 axle lines of SPMT, in the configuration of 2 x 4 file 10 to transport the flight deck sections approximately 100m across the shipyard, over the linkspan system and onto the barge.
During the load-out, ALE also provided the ballasting services to ensure the tolerances were consistent.
Both flight deck sections were loaded-out separately within three days.
The barge then sailed to Rosyth Dockyard in Scotland, UK, where the deck sections will form part of the second Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrier. ALE will also perform the load-in of aircraft carrier sections at Rosyth Dockyard.
