Supply of a gantry and skidding system to perform a load test in Zaragoza, Spain

Overview:

ALE has completed the supply and installation of a self-stable gantry in Zaragoza, Spain. The self-stable gantry was installed in preparation for a load test of a trolley for an overhead crane for a nuclear power plant in Belgium. ALE has also supplied and operated a skidding system made of four skidshoes SS90, running across two lines.

Services Required:

Once the trolley was located on the gantry, the load test consisted of hanging steel counterweights with different dimensions. To check the load, ALE introduced the counterweights, weighing 215t, inside the gantry to the height of the trolley with four skidshoes, skidding approximately 10m with two push-pull units. This method was applied in each test.

The gantry was calculated and designed as a self-stable structure measuring 7.5m x 4.5m and 11m in height. It was braced in one direction with St. Andrew´s crosses and in the other direction with stability legs. Two separate steel rails were located on the gantry’s lintel beams to lift the trolley. The trolley was lifted 2m in the test.
