Transformer installation, Australia
ALE has installed four transformers, weighing between 80t – 110t, for the Santos GLNG Project.
The four transformers were received over two shipments from the Port of Brisbane.
The timescale for this project was very short with a lead-in time from award to installation of approximately four days. ALE were able to facilitate equipment and personnel onsite from their Gladstone depot within this time. ALE also handled the mobilisation of all equipment required, including support cranage.
The project required four installations and separate set-ups, two of which were on another site approximately 40km away. ALE used the 450t Lift ‘n’ Lock’ system to lift the transformers into their final installation position.
As the ground conditions were very poor, ALE set down a large amount of steel plates to support the LNL track and provided a stable base for the transportation.
The decision was made not to deliver under hook of the gantry system because of the very tight site conditions. The stooling off of the transformers was required and ALE utilised 6 axle lines of SPT. Conventional trailers were also required to deliver under hook.
ALE provided the engineering support to assist with site constraints, ground preparation and installation methodology.
The project was completed ahead of schedule and within the client’s budget.
