Crane movements in the King Abdullah Economic Port, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Overview

ALE successfully completed the transportation and jack-down operation of two newly assembled Liebherr container cranes in the King Abdullah Economic Port, 90km north of Jeddah. Each crane weighed 1,257t and ALE completed the movements over a three day period, from the initial pick-up to final installation.

Services Required

ALE set-up and configured the SPMTs and specialised modular transportation beams four days prior to the movement, from assembly position to quayside.

ALE surveyed and prepared the transportation route several weeks in advance of the movement in liaison with the King Abdullah port authorities and Liebherr representatives.

ALE offered a route solution to the client in order to minimise the amount of prepared quayside required. This reduced the crane placement schedule by more than three weeks.

Transportation from the build location to quayside took approximately three hours, with the jack-down taking an additional two hours, which meant that the transportation and installation of both cranes could be completed within three days.
