Transportation of eight fabricated tanks, Australia
ALE have transported eight large fabricated tanks 5km to the client’s lolo, where they would be taken by barge to the GLNG Project on Curtis Island.
ALE were tasked to transport eight large fabricated tanks 5km from Gladstone Pressure Welders to the client’s lolo in Gladstone.
Prior to transportation, each tank required engineering checks for stability and lashing requirements, trailer selection and tank orientation along with transport drawings. The eight tanks varied in physical dimensions and ranged in weight from 15t – 44t, with some tanks having a sump protruding from the underside and others needed to be transported with stairs and landings attached. Because of these variations, trailers were individually selected and ALE used either 9 axle lines of SPT – 2 file or 12 axle lines of SPT – 4 file. .
The size of some tanks dictated the need to remove or reposition street lights and in some cases the disconnection of power lines, which meant that some transportation needed to take place on weekends.
The eight tanks were transported safely and without incident over 10 months.
